The Story

What is The Story?

The Story is a resource that makes the Bible more readable and understandable than ever! All of the stories of the Bible have been collected from a contemporary translation of the Bible and placed in chronological order, so that the Bible reads like a novel. Each chapter is connected with the last, so that God’s great deeds and dealings with our world are told in one seamless narrative. There are no verse references, and Scripture segments are seamlessly woven together with transition text into a single grand narrative. For those intimidated or overwhelmed by the unabridged Bible, The Story helps people understand God’s Word more fully and engage with it more easily.

On August 10th, our Church will embark on this great journey together to hear, read, learn, and share the greatest story ever told! All members are invited to join us in this reading adventure that will conclude in May. If you have ever wanted to better understand your Bible, or experience the transforming power of Scripture in your life, you will never have a better opportunity.

How can I be a part of this?

We have many different ways to “Join the Story”. In fact, to insure everyone is fully informed of all the options along the way, we will have The Story Weekly that will be emailed every Monday that will list all pertinent details for that week.

We have The Story books available for readers of all ages. Please note the section on Families books and plans. We even have large print books.

To begin, just get a book and follow along!

If you want to dig in even deeper, there are study guides and daily devotion books available for purchase online or through the church office.

What is Involved?

  • Everyone will receive their own copy of The Story. Each week you will read one chapter along with the entire Church family.
  • The Story Weekly email will contain video teachings, insights and questions on each chapter beginning Monday, August 10th.
  • The sermon and worship services each Sunday will follow along with our readings beginning Sunday, August 16th.
  • Daily devotions will be posted on Facebook for adults and families.

What about families?

Our children and youth ministries will be working together as we begin The Story. Each week in The Story Weekly, there will be a section dedicated to families. We will have activity sheets provided for the preschool, early elementary, and older elementary each week. Youth will have their own sheet where they can recap or draw how The Story speaks to them. Parents and guardians, we will also include a sheet contains age specific questions for the family to discuss together.

We are hoping families can spend time as a unit participating in these weekly lessons. A video element will be included that summarizes the current week’s reading. Watch these videos and allow them to engage you in the “Greatest Story Ever Told”. We hope you find this spiritual journey as a family rewarding, where you can read the text together and share in the growth that comes from it. The family has always been the primary method for spiritual growth (Deut 6:4-9) and we hope these resources help you. Lastly, we will also have a daily family devotion on the First Baptist’s Facebook page as we begin this churchwide spiritual journey. If you have any questions or issues, please feel free to contact Susan Deal or Justin Safley.

A Call to Prayer for

Pray that God will . . .

. . . touch our hearts with His STORY of love.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
John 3:16-17 NIV

. . . train our hearts as we share His STORY with one another.

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Sprit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.  I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his people, and his incomparable great power for us who believe.
Eph. 1:17-19 NIV

. . . transform our hearts to live His STORY in the world.

And God has given us the privilege of urging everyone to come into his favor and be reconciled to him. … This is the wonderful message He has given us to tell others.  We are Christ’s ambassadors.
2 Cor. 5:18b-20 LB
